Look into my crystal ball. What do I see, you ask? I see the future and the secrets of success. Yes, I see the future and the future is you.

As you reach many milestones in your life, your families will be very proud of you. You can make the choice to be a leader. One of the reasons America is so great is because we have the freedom to invest time in our own personal development and make our own way in the world. You may choose to be a doctor, a lawyer, a governor. Anything is possible.

Regardless of what you lead...your family, your community, your business, your school, or your generation, you must be what I call a "real leader" – a good ethical leader. There are many secrets of successful leaders and each begins with ethics.

Leadership is communicating, setting examples, and “visioning.” These are the secrets of success of real leaders:

Real leaders never stop growing in their personal development.

Real leaders have the capacity for self-doubt and humility, knowing these attributes will help keep you on track.

Real leaders take their chances in the marketplace of ideas without threats of punishment and without attempting to control the process.

Real leaders acknowledge mistakes openly and regretfully. Then they correct them and move on.

Real leaders will always solicit questions from others and will question themselves as well. They know their personal development stands on many shoulders. A philosopher once wrote that “mediocre minds usually dismiss anything which reaches beyond their own understanding.”

Effective leadership starts with accepting responsibility for your actions. The best way to be responsible is through self examination, confronting doubts and fears, and looking closely at the forces that have made you who you are, both personally and professionally. An effective leader knows it is vital to leadership health to plan and prepare properly.
